Ema is a Certified Social Worker. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from Utah Valley University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California. She has experience with some of the most vulnerable populations; such as: foster care, post adoption services, juvenile justice system, refugees, homeless population, and human exploitation survivors. She has worked in a variety of settings from outpatient all the way to residential care. Ema’s experience includes work with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, trauma, adoption and/or attachment issues, ADHD, substance use, and survivors of sexual assault. She has a special place in her heart for those on the Autism Spectrum. Ema’s work focuses on the use of DBT, CBT, TF-CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Family Systems, and ERP.
Ema’s real passion lies in working with adolescents and their families. She loves to help individuals find their inner strength. She believes that we all have the capacity to help ourselves and it’s her responsibility to guide the individual on their journey to believing that as well. As the guide, Ema will help students and families explore and identify the underlying reasons that drive maladaptive behaviors; from there, change can occur. Ema enjoys working collaboratively with her team and with the family to ensure her students receive the most valuable opportunities for self-growth and care. Ema understands that connection is key to a successful therapeutic relationship. She enjoys finding connection through compassion and humor while also encouraging courage and honesty to build trust.
Ema brings rich, personal life experiences to her work. She raised six children as a single mother, experienced the grief of losing a child, and learned how to parent a child on the Autism Spectrum. Because of her life experience, she can relate and empathize with her clients in many ways. In her spare time, Ema enjoys just being a mom! She likes to spend evenings working out with her children and watching sports in her living room. She enjoys deep cleaning,podcasts, and being able to relax with a good book.
