Daily Schedule

Students attend school classes Monday through Friday according to the outlined schedule below. Once a month, Friday classes are cancelled so the students can go to the award-winning Salt Lake City Library. On holidays and week-long school breaks between semesters, the students have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities planned and carried out by the residential staff.

Activity Descriptions

Hygiene
Each morning and evening, the students have time to shower, groom, and prepare for the day or for the night.

back to schedule

Chores
An important part of each student’s learning and practicing responsibility and self-reliance is their daily chores.  Students participate in making their beds, taking out the garbage, doing dishes, among other chores around the house.

Deep Clean
Every Sunday, students do a deep clean: a more detailed scrubbing of the house and their bedrooms.

Meals
Students eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and have a daily snack. Lunch and dinner on weekdays are prepared by a cook and served by staff.  To ensure that students are eating appropriate portion sizes, trained La Europa staff serves the plates with healthy and balanced meals.  On weekends, students often help the staff with food preparation.

Fresh Air Break
Among other things, the students have a break everyday in the afternoon, a “recess” of sorts where they can enjoy the outdoors while playing basketball, soccer, walking around the grounds with friends, or just the sunshine.

Study Hall
Study Halls are a part of the schedule twice each weekday. There is an afternoon study hall during which the students have an opportunity to meet with their teachers for extra help if necessary. During afternoon, evening, and Saturday study halls, the students may also turn to staff or other students for help with assignments. All study halls are monitored by staff and students are expected to be working on school-related assignments during these times.

Daily Community Meeting
The daily morning and evening community meetings are a crucial part of the emotional growth and development of La Europa students.  All of our students meet together with the peers and staff from their community to set and report on goals, give positive and constructive feedback to each other in a staff-supervised setting, and make announcements pertaining to their treatment.

Reflective Time
On Sundays, the students have quiet time to themselves in which they may read, write letters, and write in their journals.

Evening Activities
As the day winds down from school, the work at La Europa Academy is just getting going.  Each evening is filled with activities and events designed to help the students develop relationships and exercise their skills and emotional growth.

  • Recreation Night
Every week, one student takes responsibility for planning a fun off-campus activity for her community. Some recent popular activities include roller skating, dollar movies, and a local arcade.

  • Service/Culture Night
One night a week our students either participate in a service project or local cultural activity (the opera, plays, symphony/musical events, dance productions/classes, art exhibits, etc.). In the past La Europa has attended the off-Broadway production of Les Miserables, Ballet West’s production of Swan Lake, Utah Opera’s rendition of Romeo and Juliet, and Utah’s award winning Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City.

  • AA Meetings
La Europa provides an opportunity for our students to attend a local AA Meeting on a weekly basis. Students are only allowed to attend this meeting with a Primary Therapist and Treatment Team approval.

  • Craft Night
Accessing their creative energies, La Europa students make blankets, holiday crafts, paint, scrapbook, learn to knit and crochet, and make beaded handicrafts.

  • Movie/Pizza Night
On Saturday evenings, our students agree (after some discussion) upon a movie to rent and then order-in pizza. All movies are approved through staff for appropriate content.  Rated R movies are not allowed.

  • Rec. Center
Students visit a local recreation center once a week to swim, play basketball, strength train, and exercise.
