Two
common descriptions of our programs by girls
experiencing daily student life are “busy” and
“surrounded by people who care.” Daily life at La Europa
Academy is defined by our philosophy of providing a
climate of growth in which students gain the
confidence and strength to make right choices. The
result is a varied--but full--schedule that includes
school (Monday through Friday), specialized
academic/therapeutic classes such as Art or Drama,
personal and house chores, individual therapy, group
therapy,
cooking, physical fitness activities, service and work
projects, educational field trips, and numerous
recreational activities.
There is also a strong emphasis on life skills, such as
financial management, time management, and goal setting.
Part
of the magic of La Europa is the close friendship that
evolves between girls in the program and our staff. In
fact, girls sometimes comment at graduation that it is
harder to return home than it was to come into treatment
at La Europa. This is due to the many deep and lasting
relationships that are typically created by girls who
live together, go to school together, and experience
many powerful group therapeutic activities together.
Sharing so many powerful and life changing experiences
produces powerful, binding ties between not only the
girls but also the staff and clinical team as well. This
“friendship for life” remains a powerful catalyst for
keeping many of our graduates on track once they return
home.
