Staff Leaders

La Europa is divided into two communities that have been named by the girls as the Revival Community and the Delta Phoenix Community.  Each community has 16 girls, and they have their own staff.  While the communities have classes and groups together, many of their evening activities are attended in separate communities.

Richard Long   Richard Long, CSW
Program Director/Therapist
Richard is from the great state of South Carolina and has worked in the helping professions industry since 2001, with experience in wilderness therapy, in-home counseling for Child Protective Services, and residential treatment. Richard attended the College of Charleston, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Anthropology, and Arizona State University, where he received his Master of Social Work degree. Additionally, Richard is a trained Arbinger facilitator since 2005. Richard has been married to his wife, Amber, since 2003 and they have two wonderful daughters, Kaya and Sadie. Richard is active in his local church and enjoys snowboarding, basketball, road and mountain biking, and hiking.
     
Karen Cluff   Karen Cluff
Community Leader, Delta Phoenix Community
Karen has worked for La Europa for over 2 years, quickly moving up from residential assistant to team leader and now serves as our Community Leader for the Delta Phoenix community. As a native of Salt Lake City, she loves Utah's beautiful mountains and distinct change of seasons. In May 2007, Karen graduated from the University of Utah, earning two Bachelor's degrees. Her areas of study were Psychology and Sociology with an additional certificate in Criminology and Corrections. She plans on continuing her education to receive a Masters in Social Work within the next few years. Before coming to La Europa, Karen served as a mentor for The Village Project, a volunteer mentor program sponsored by the Third District Juvenile Court in Salt Lake City. She really enjoys working with youth. Being involved in the therapeutic transformation of the girls and developing meaningful relationships with them is what she likes most about her position as Community Leader. She has a great love for music, art and theater; which is what originally attracted her to La Europa Academy. Karen is a dedicated staff member with a personal commitment to enrich the lives of every student.
     
Meg Ellingson  

Meg Ellingson
Community Leader, Revival Community
Meg has worked at La Europa for over 2 years. She started out as a residential assistant and now serves as the Community Leader for the Revival community. Meg grew up in Salt Lake City and is currently pursuing her bachelors’ degree in Psychology. Growing up, Meg was very active in community service and leadership positions both at school and church. As a former camp counselor, she has a love for youth as well as the outdoors. This love for youth is primarily what brought her to La Europa where she hopes to make a positive impact on the girls here.

     
Katie Vettori   Katie Vettori
Team Leader
Katie has worked at La Europa for over 3 years. She received her bachelor degree in health promotion and education from the University of Utah in 2007. She loves helping the students at La Europa see how better daily choices lead to a happier healthy lifestyle. Katie enjoys horseback riding and spending time in the sun. She loves traveling, learning about other cultures, and eating great food.
